There’s a reason communities are losing glass in their curbside recycling. When glass is mixed with other recyclables, it gets broken and contaminated, making it hard to recycle. Plus, it’s heavy and expensive to transport.
And yet, our community knows it’s important: glass can be recycled over and over again, right here in Washington.
Because of your support, glass recycling pickups are available again in Olympia and Pierce County.

“I've been hoping glass will come.
This is huge and will make a big difference for me! I can likely convince others to join for glass recycling too!”
“A great value to Ridwell memberships.
It's really difficult to store and transport glass!”
“Very excited for this!
We were really bummed when curbside recycling went away. Took a few glass loads to recycling center but it got too annoying and we stoped recycling them, so I'm excited for this.”
Less energy needed
Recycled glass requires 25-30% less energy to melt than virgin batch materials.
Lower air and carbon emissions
One ton of carbon dioxide is reduced for every six tons of recycled glass used in the manufacturing process.
Reduced environmental impact
Recycled glass reduces the need for precious raw materials and the water used to extract them.
